Mobile Tinsel-mysting

A lot of you probably know about my involvement in the original Myst. For the past couple months, I've been testing an iPhone version of the game. I found it to be a faithful port of the original.

It's finally released and, from what I've been told, Cyan is already working on updates. So myst away!

Any word on Riven for the iPhone?

Very cool! Who would have thought that one day we'd be playing Myst this way - in the palm of our hand?!

From what I've heard, it sounds like the touch interface is great. I'll see if I can borrow my friend's iPod Touch to try it.

I have to agree; playing it for a couple hours now, and it is very well ported. Zooming in on 'troublesome' areas (such as the books) is clever. I didn't expect it would work out this well. Only negative point is my neck strain from looking down on my iphone all the time :)

Although I am glad of it, it only serves as a "memento mori" of all the previous games, most especially RealMYST. For some reason I bought it, started playing, set it aside, and -- what seems like only a moment later -- it no longer runs on modern Macs.

I guess I will have to find an emulator and ensconce it there, so that I can get to that "bonus age" and see what that was all about.

I love the idea of a modern, internet-enabled, Cosmic Osmo, a kind of massively multiplayer collaborative plaything/artwork, bringing the spirit of the "MUD" online systems forward.

Hope something like that happens. Have fun, if nothing else.
