The Eraser

Eraser

Though music is a great love of mine, it is not the typical subject matter of the tinselman blog. The reason... I don't want to bore you with my own musical tastes. But I'm just too excited about this to not mention it: Thom Yorke, the song writer and lead singer of Radiohead has recently announced a solo album! This is a first, folks! It will be produced by Nigel Godrich (the producer of Radiohead's "Hail to the Thief" and Beck's "Sea Change") and will be titled "The Eraser". It's just a lot of good news!... but there is some bad news: it won't be out until July.

About the album, Yorke says,

i wrote and played it. the elements have been kicking round now for a few years and needed to be finished & i have been itching to do something like this for ages.

Robyn, this will probably get me banned from the Republic and stripped of my titles, but I hate Radiohead. But in my own defense, its because an ex-girlfriend of mine loved it, and so, therefore, by the rules and laws of ex-girlfriend canon, I have to hate it...

I've heard some Radiohead--I'm not terribly familiar with them, but a friend of mine had OK Computer. What little I have heard I enjoyed, so it may be something I might check into, as well as some of the newer "prog" bands. I actually find the music posts to be quite interesting, being a composer/musician/music theorist myself. I don't know about anyone else, though . . .

Sorry for the ex-girlfriend liking Radiohead, Adam. If I follow those rules I just hope I don't have to break up with any women that like Yes and/or Bartok . . . it's hard enough to find one in the first place. Of course, I like that stuff so much I don't think it could stop me . . . It's quite easy when they're into stuff you already think is terrible ('N Sync . . . blech!)

(sorry for the long-winded post)

I have never heard Radiohead. Is it on the radio?

I don't listen to radio. But I keep hearing about the Radiohead. And I love News Radio.

On the subject of music: um, please do. Especially, y'know, if you ever wanted to write about making it.

Radiohead is a wonderful band! So happy to hear that Robyn like it too! If you like a) the surreal, the ambient, intricate textures, landscapes of sound, experimentation AND b) an emotionally satisfying experience, you can't go wrong with Radiohead! So rarely do a) and b) go together. I have heard the lead guitarist (and lead experimenter with electonic gadgets), Jonny Greenwood, is fully colour-blind. If this is true, it explains a lot, because what he lacks in visual colour he really makes up for in sound-colour . . . you know how brains compensate for the loss of one sense by the sharpening of another . . . ?
