The Honda Puyo concept car, announced at the 2007 Tokyo Auto show.
Right off the bat, I should admit... the vast majority of cars bore me. They all look pretty much the same. Concept cars bore me too... they all look like they were designed by the same designer. But the Puyo manages to adopt a retro-future personality while re-thinking the idea of a car.
The idea behind the car: to create a closer relationship, or understanding, between driver and vehicle (for people like myself). To this end, the car was designed to look like a pet. Which reminds me of another time honored car with which we're all familiar...
But unlike the VW Bug, the Puyo has a gel skin. It's true... the white skin of the car is actually soft to the touch. And all lights are hidden, directly beneath the surface of this skin. At the very least, it's an inviting concept.
• powered by fuel cell technology
• glows in the dark
• spins 360 degrees, while staying in place
• operated with a joystick
But alas, even if if the Puyo is ever brought to wider production – an eventuality I highly doubt – I'll be stuck admiring it from the passenger seat or the side of the road (I have epilepsy... I can't drive).

My daughter (who just graduated from high school last Saturday incidentally, YAY!) she spotted this thing on a news page somewhere and insisted I see it too. It is amazing. We live on a ten mile long island. It's too hot to walk to the grocery store, but you hate to waste the gas driving there. Most folks use golf carts, but this little car would be pretty darned cool instead. And hey, with the 360 degree thing she'd never have trouble finding parking. And the idea of it being cute didn't escape her either. ;)
(I don't drive either. I have no excuse though. I'm 40 years old and I just never learned how. :P )

Wow... love the joystick & glow in the dark concepts. Such an unusual shape too. If we put a smiley face on the front, it'd remind me of Thomas the Tank Engine [oh how I miss that show]

Best of all, if you line up four of the Puyos, they disappear!

What a strange car, but very good idea overall. Very different look to it.

I'm waiting for cars with spherical "wheels" myself.
Btw, Robyn, I've listened to your "Get Out of My Way" track for the first time and I must say, I loved it! I wouldn't mind seeing you do more of this kind of stuff.

Okay. I would totally drive that.

It's certainly cute. Definitely unique. It's interesting that it glows in the dark as well... that might be useful during the night. Seeing how this car is made and driven would be pretty cool, in any case.

Oh, some may see this car as similar to other cars, but driving this will make for a unique experience. And that glow-in-the-dark feature is just great! The sky is truly the limit when it comes to the Japanese!
